In the Distance by Hernan Diaz

Absolutely adored this book. A Swedish boy making his way across the US in search of the brother he was separated from after fleeing his home country. Rapturous story telling. Tenderness, violence, and historical perspective. A+

Two Step Devil by Jaime Quatro

Incredible writing in this story of faith, government, art, culture, and beliefs. A painfully accurate picture of America today. Looking forward to more by Quatro. Highly recommend. A

The Mighty Red by Louise Erdrich

An epic story of love, anguish, grief, environment- two boys, one girl, their families in a Prairie community in North Dakota. Everyday life and conflict are so much more in the capable hands of Erdrich. A

We Solve Murders by Richard Osman

You just can't go wrong with a book by Osman. A new set of characters for him after the Thursday Murder Club. This is a fun, fast-moving, and engaging mystery. Fun as an Audible as well. A

The Anti-Heroes by Jen Lancaster

Admittedly, I got this free with Kindle Unlimited, but it was a funny and uplifting story. You will be frustrated by the under- confident cast at the start, but then they find their footing and triumph. Would be an easy listen as well. A-

The River View by Jamie Harrison

Blue Deer, Montana. Welcome to the West.Timely story set in a small town in a state being overrun by development putting neighbors and outsiders in conflict and partnership. Who to trust? A-

Creation Lake by Rachel Kushner

I chose this book for my Book Club before I had read, it based on my enjoyment of The Mars Room. They will never trust me again! Not sure how this was listed for the Booker Prize. It was a big miss for me. Stodgy, bad ending, and just not what I expect from Kushner. Very mixed reviews- New Yorker hated it, NYT loved it. I can't really recommend it, but I also think that more intellectual minds than mine seem to find a lot to admire, so you decide.

Connie by Connie Chung Her memoir, great as an Audible as she narrates it. Insight to her personal life which was not easy.

Our Man in Charleston by Christopher Dickey Covers much of the same territory as Demon of Unrest, but from the pespective of the British consul to Charleston.

Blood Like Mine by Stuart Neville- Not as advertised. TERRIBLE. Not even putting in a link. Avoid at all costs.
